Welcome to everyone who is new here. If you’re curious at all about how Google takes in new content (or recrawls of existing content) you are in the right place.
Supporting members receive all the geeky details and intelligence from where I sit and watch indexation and serving closely.
If you’re at all wondering how indexing and serving are not the same thing, there is a search status dashboard - there was a serving incident at the end of the month.
It went largely unnoticed because of all the excitement about the leaked Google API document.
AND for me I was busy making sure folks who got hit in the Sept HCU (and March core) that there appears to be an issue with the canonical attribution system, i.e. Google’s system of keeping the main page attributed with all the jump link URLs from a Table of Contents appears to be broken. I wrote all about it in this PDF - if you haven’t had a chance to grab it - its set to a name your own price which can even be no cost to you - Fix The Canonical. Its that important.
Today I took the morning to review what is going on related to all the high volatility. And I did see a pattern.
